If you have any queries during your exam, your remote invigilator is there to assist you. You will be able to contact them through the blue chat facility titled Proctor. Please note that your invigilator may pause your exam before responding to ensure you do not lose time while communicating with them.
If your exam is paused without you contacting your invigilator, you may be experiencing connection issues. If this occurs, take your phone off airplane mode and call Highfield on 01302 363277, requesting to speak to the support team.
Unfortunately, breaks are not permitted during your exam. Please ensure you have had a toilet stop, are comfortable and have everything you need before starting, including a drink of water.
If you are sitting multiple exams, you may be prompted to take a scheduled break in between.
Please do not deviate from the onscreen exam instructions or visit other web pages during your exam, other than to return to the ProctorExam page to speak to your invigilator.
No software is needed to sit an exam remotely, only a Google Chrome extension, which will allow screen sharing. Our services are completely web-based – it could not be simpler.

Starting your exam is simple and stress-free. You will receive an email from ProctorExam asking you to test your equipment at least 48 hours before your exam. Once your equipment checks are complete, you will receive a second email from ProctorExam inviting you to your exam. All you need to do is click the link within this email to start your exam on the scheduled date and time.
During the setup of your exam, you will be prompted to show your ID to the camera and will be given instructions on how to take a suitable photograph.
Your invigilator will need to see your photograph clearly, along with your name and date of birth.
We know exams can be nerve-racking, which is why we have created a short pre-exam checklist to help you prepare – take a look here.
Please also read the exam conditions detailed in our Learner Policy before your exam.
If you need help during system checks:
- between 8:30am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday – call our office on 01302 363277 and ask to speak to a member of the RI support team

Highfield and ProctorExam respect your privacy and comply with UK and EU privacy laws. To confirm exam conditions, we record video feeds and monitor computer activities. An invigilator cannot access your files without a notification, and everything is registered in the log files.
Remote invigilation allows you to sit your exam from home. With a computer or laptop, a webcam and a smartphone. We use proctoring software to supervise your exam for regulated qualifications and apprenticeships while maintaining exam conditions.

If your phone is disconnected, you will be notified and asked to re-scan the QR code. If this does not work, close and reopen the ProctorExam app or restart your smartphone if you are still in exam set-up.
If the exam has started and you receive a notification to reconnect your mobile, you can ignore this unless the exam is paused for you to reconnect, in which case, it prevents you from losing time.
You will need the ProctorExam app, available from the App Store and Play Store.
