Allergen near misses may not result in harm, but they are critical warnings that something in your process needs immediate attention. In this insightful webinar on 27 August, Caroline Benjamin and Jacqui McPeake, founders of HASUK (Hospitality Allergen Support UK), will explore the essential role of managing and learning from allergen near miss incidents within the hospitality sector.

With a shared mission to improve allergen safety standards across the UK, Caroline and Jacqui have collaborated on a new research project, supported by a final-year hospitality student. This research involved surveys distributed to both hospitality businesses and FHS (Food Hypersensitive) consumers, uncovering key insights into:

Whether businesses have structured procedures in place for recording and managing near miss incidents.

How consumers report allergen issues when dining out and what happens afterward.

Where the communication gaps lie between customers and food service providers.

The session will also explore the current allergen risk landscape across the hospitality industry, with a special focus on challenges faced by coffee shops, where cross-contamination and labelling oversights are common yet avoidable.
