Superdrug Case Study | Highfield Qualifications

SuperdrugSuperdrug Case Study

The Background

Superdrug is the UK's second-largest beauty and health retailer, currently operating over 800 stores in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, employing approximately 16,000 staff members. A key element to their success has been ensuring that its team is effectively trained to give customers the service and quality they deserve. Superdrug uses apprenticeship programmes to train staff in subject areas such as retail, business administration, customer service, warehousing and team leading. Whilst Superdrug are committed to their apprenticeship programmes, they were not completely satisfied with the service levels they were receiving from them based on their flexibility when it came to providing a bespoke solution which would satisfy the needs of their learners. Having reviewed the support that Highfield could offer, Superdrug made the decision to become a Highfield approved centre.

The Solution

Highfield was able to provide Superdrug with not only high quality and industry relevant qualifications, but also bespoke learning resources (both physical training materials and e-learning) at extremely competitive prices. In addition to this Highfield provided a dedicated External Quality Support Officer for all Superdrug frameworks (a service that they had not received from their previous awarding organisation).

The Results

Hundreds of Superdrug staff have been qualified through Highfield, with all learners using Highfield supporting training materials. More than 75% of all individuals that have also completed Apprenticeship programmes and gained a permanent position with the company. For one area of the business a massive 90% were employed, with approximately 50% advancing into a management level role.

The Future

Not only does Highfield continue to work with Superdrug when it comes to Apprenticeship programmes, but also works with its sister company Savers using similar blended learning approaches. Commenting on the future of both organisations, apprenticeship programme manager Sue Renny stated: ‘I would recommend Highfield to others. The service that we have received was absolutely excellent, second to none. We’re always looking to develop and enhance our existing programmes and between us I think we have got some exciting places to go. Apprenticeships are incredibly important to us as an organisation and are a fundamental part of our strategy’. To view a video testimonial for the A.S Watson Group, please click on the video below:
